The long-awaited cross-platform WhatsApp chat history transfer tool is finally starting to roll out for users.
We have known for a long time that the function would arrive and WhatsApp teased the next function during Samsung’s recent Galaxy Unpacked event. Now the feature is coming to Samsung phones running Android 10 and above, with more Android devices to get the feature “soon”.
For those interested in using the tool, WhatsApp has a complete step-by-step guide to moving chats from an iPhone to an Android phone. You will need Samsung SmartSwitch application (version 220.127.116.11 or later), WhatsApp for iOS (version 18.104.22.168) and WhatsApp for Android (22.214.171.124) and a USB-C to Lightning cable or equivalent adapters. Oh, and on top of that, you must use the same phone number on the new device that you used on the old device. and your android device must be factory reset or new.
It’s a lot of prerequisites just to move your WhatsApp chats from one platform to another. It’s frankly surprising to me that WhatsApp hasn’t found a more agile way to allow people to move chats from one platform to another. In addition, it is frankly archaic that WhatsApp only allows you to receive messages on one device; One of the main reasons I stopped using WhatsApp was the difficulty of managing it on multiple devices, even on the same platform.
Anyway, if you are a WhatsApp fan and have been eagerly awaiting the ability to transfer your chat history to another platform, it is finally (sort of) here.
