What Happened in Season 1 of The Flight Attendant?
Season 1 of The Flight Attendant follows Cassie Bowden, the titular flight attendant who quickly becomes embroiled in a deadly conspiracy involving one of the travelers on her flight to Bangkok.
Cassie wakes up after a characteristically alcoholic one night stand with the handsome and fabulously wealthy Alex Sokolov. But there’s a problem. His bedmate is dead, apparently murdered while sleeping next to him.
The Flight Attendant is a dark, witty, and fun take on Hitchcock classics like The 39 Steps and North By Northwest.
Fearful of taking the blame (or that maybe she did before she passed out drunk), Cassie returns home to New York, where she juggles with FBI agents, murderers, suspicious friends, rich people misbehaving, a story thorny familiar and the ghost of Alex.
Cassie has to fight for her life and find out what happened in Bangkok in this dark, witty, and fun modern take on Hitchcock classics like The 39 Steps and North By Northwest.
When is The Flight Attendant season 2 coming out?
HBO Max announced a second season of The Flight Attendant on December 18, 2020, just one day after the end of the first season.
The new season comes as a surprise, as season 1 was announced as a limited series. The Flight Attendant joins shows like HBO’s Big Little Lies and The Great, which got second seasons despite being released as miniseries or limited series.
So far, very little is known about when production on The Flight Attendant season 2 will begin. HBO Max stated that the new season will begin in spring 2022. A firm premiere date has not been revealed.
“To say that I am euphoric would be an understatement! The positive response to our show has exceeded all of our expectations and I am very proud of the entire team behind its success, ”said star and executive producer Cuoco. “We are committed to providing quality and diverse entertainment, including an exciting (and probably a little crazy) season 2 of TFA!”
Is it still based on the same book?
Season 1 of The Flight Attendant is based on the novel of the same name by Chris Bohjalian.
It’s safe to say that season 2 will move away from the inspiration of the novel, as everything was adapted in the first outing.
The plot differences between the book and the series aside, The Flight Attendant novel has no sequels yet. His story is complete and has already unfolded on screen.
That means the show’s writers will have to come up with a new story. It’s still based on the novel, in the sense that the characters are borrowed from Bohjalian, but anyone who did the reading ahead of time will walk in just as intact as the rest of us.
Who is involved in season 2 of The Flight Attendant?
Kaley Cuoco is back as Cassie in season 2 of The Flight Attendant. But beyond that, the show could go in almost any direction, adding new characters and perhaps leaving a few behind.
Depending on who you ask and how the negotiations go, the money for sure is in the return of Cassie’s friends and colleagues, as well as her brother. We may see more of Rosie Perez, Zosia Mamet, Michelle Gomez, TR Knight, and Griffin Matthews, among other cast members from Season 1.
And maybe Cassie isn’t done with her visions of Alex, who was played by Michiel Huisman in season 1.
Behind the camera, the first season was produced by Warner Bros. Television, Berlanti Productions and Yes, Norman Productions. Greg Berlanti, Kaley Cuoco, Steve Yockey and Sarah Schechter served as executive producers. Suzanne McCormack is Co-Executive Producer.
What can we expect from season 2?
HBO Max hasn’t shared much information about The Flight Attendant season 2 yet. Still, we can gather some details from the information we have.
“Season 2 will feature Cassie in a new adventure,” HBO Max said in a statement shortly after announcing the second season. But the streamer hasn’t said anything about other details.
Cuoco has told the deadline that season 2 will likely focus on Cassie’s “sober ride” after the first season full of alcohol. “I think he is going to learn very quickly that this is a fight for life and that it is going to be way over his head.”
“The CIA is definitely interested in her,” he added. That means the espionage and intrigue of season 1 should still be a big part of season 2. And presumably Hitchcock’s influence will be, too. Before the renovation, showrunner Steve Yockey told The New York Times that, “If we had a second season, it would probably be a whole new adventure, like a new Hitchcock movie that Cassie would stumble upon.”
That’s all we know about season 2 of The Flight Attendant, which is heading to HBO Max in Spring 2022. We’ll be sure to let you know as soon as we learn more.
