ServiceNow, a workflow automation platform used by companies like Deloitte and American Express, said that when the Mapwize acquisition closes in the coming months, it will offer the technology as part of a broader service to help employees book seating, conference rooms, and other public spaces, as well as generally navigating around large buildings and campuses. Mapwize will eventually integrate with the Now platform on desktop computers and mobile devices.
Founded in Lille in 2014, the Mapwize platform is designed to help companies digitize their existing floor plans, with the ability to import any format, such as AutoCAD, and design and manage their maps from a single interface. Mapwize can also be integrated with orientation hardware technologies, such as beacons.
The acquisition comes at a turbulent time for the global workforce, as some companies want their workers to return to the office weather others commit to a permanent remote work arrangement. What will eventually become the norm remains to be seen, but a hybrid approach is likely to be the compromise many companies reach with their employees: They can work from home sometimes, but they have to come at least part of the week. And this is the world that ServiceNow said it seeks to support with Mapwize under its wing.
Ultimately, it is designed to help employees returning to unfamiliar buildings with new designs or new employees who have not yet visited the office, while also helping building managers and administrators identify usage patterns so they can design better the designs of their offices.
