The Mophie Snap + Powerstation Mount is a multifunctional battery pack designed with your new iPhone in mind.
This new 10,000 mAh battery has several great tricks that make it a worthwhile accessory, including converting to a stand, magnetic connection, and even a tripod mount. More on those cool tricks in a moment, but first, let’s talk about the main function: the battery.
A premium solution
This battery is at the premium end of Mophie’s lineup and borrows the aesthetics from their existing Snap + battery solutions.
It is wrapped in a gray canvas-like material with rubber sides. There is a bracket that rotates from the back and is held closed with a strong magnet. It requires a good pull to take advantage of it freely. The hinge is quite strong, so it does not move at all, open or closed.
At 10K capacity, this is enough to charge an iPhone, which should get you through a weekend of average use, depending on your charging method. You can charge any device using the USB-C port, like an iPhone or AirPods with a Lightning to USB-C cable. You can also quickly charge the new Apple Watch Series 7 with its included USB-C disk.
That USB-C port is also the input for the battery. There’s no Qi input, which is fine as it can be frustratingly slow as input for a high-capacity battery like this. However, USB-C, being almost universal, is the ideal input here because there is only one port, so it must be used for input and output. You cannot charge the battery via USB-C while also charging your iPhone via USB-C.
With the USB-C port on one side, there is a single power button on the opposite side. It is located next to a quartet of small LEDs that act as typical battery capacity indicators. Each light represents approximately 25% charge. Two lights mean it has about 50% battery left.
Mophie has tricks up her sleeve
Aside from USB-C, users have another option to turn on their devices. That would be through Qi. The Snap + PowerStation Stand has a Qi wireless outlet, surrounded by a ring of magnets. This is compatible with iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 which are compatible with MagSafe or any other Qi device with Mophie Snap adapters.
MagSafe compatible magnets not only help when used as a holder, they ensure proper alignment for the most efficient charging.
We generally don’t love connecting Qi outputs to batteries. Qi is notoriously inefficient, and when you are already limited to the capacity it brings with it, charging with Qi can quickly reduce peak energy utilization. Qi is great with a dedicated dock or charger, but with a battery, you don’t have power to spare.
MagSafe – that’s it official MagSafe: It is theoretically more efficient than Qi, but this is not that. However, we agree with MagSafe here, as it is necessary for the look of the booth.
With that magnetic mount, you can easily hold your phone as a mini dock, as a running Twitter feed, or to more easily watch movies and TV. Holds your phone at a wide angle. This also couldn’t be a better companion for air travel where you need to keep your battery charged, want to watch some videos, and don’t have a good place to set up your phone.
However, my favorite trick is for photography. This battery has a standard 1/4-inch-20 tripod socket. You can connect to any tripod to take photos, record videos, and get selfies that you might not otherwise be able to get. You can attach this to a tripod, form a group, and activate your iPhone using the companion camera app on Apple Watch.
Should I buy the Mophie Snap + PowerStation mount?
Few batteries include this range. We have MagSafe mount, a built-in mount, a solid 10K battery capacity, tripod threads, and USB-C.
It’s not the smallest battery, especially in the 10K mAh range, but there are enough features here to make this a perfect travel battery, or even just a desktop stand that can come with you when you need it.
We love the tripod stand and we applaud Mophie for doing something a little different with quite a few solid features and good build quality.
