How to Change Your Network Profile on Windows 11

The network profile is part of Windows operating systems, and when you connect your PC to a network for the first time, you are asked if you want other PCs and devices on the network to be able to detect it.

This message asks you to select between public and private networks. Whether you are connecting to a wired or wireless network; Windows will ask you what type of network and settings you want to use.

Public and private network profile

In general, there are two types of networks: private and public. When you set a network profile to Public, your device will not be visible to other devices on the same network. That simply means that other devices on the network will not be able to access your files, printers, etc.

Similarly, when you set a network profile to Private, your device will be discoverable on networks. This means that other devices on the network can access your files, printers, and other things.

Both network profiles use different firewall settings. You can also use third-party firewall applications in Windows to customize these two profiles to your preferences.
