HBO Max India Launch May Happen Soon

Home Box Office (HBO) Max is a video-on-demand streaming platform owned by WarnerMedia Studios & Networks. HBO Max first launched on May 27, 2020 in the United States and Latin America. As of June 30, 2021, the platform has more than 67.5 million users.

According to a report published on OnlyTech, HBO Max is likely to enter India very soon and the company is testing three monthly plans. The report also claims that the company has engaged Nepa, a market research firm, to conduct an online pre-launch survey.

HBO Max India’s Plans Leaked Online

The leak reveals that HBO Max will launch three subscription plans in India, namely Ad, Mobile and Standard. Subscription plans are likely to start at ₹ 69 per month. HBO Max users can create five profiles per account. Standard and mobile subscription plans are ad-free.

  • Funded by advertising: This is the entry-level subscription plan, which costs ₹ 69 per month. Under this plan, users can stream standard definition (SD) content in 2 simultaneous streams on all devices. Users will have access to movies one year after theatrical / digital release and episodes of the series after the season ends.
  • Mobile: Priced at ₹ 139 per month, users can stream standard definition (SD) content on just 1 mobile phone or tablet. Users will have access to movies six to eight months after theatrical / digital release, and series episodes within three weeks after release.

The annual subscription of the Mobile Plan is priced at ₹ 1,001 per year with a 40 percent discount over the monthly subscription plan.

  • Standard: Priced at ₹ 329 per month, users can stream 4K content in three simultaneous streams on all devices. Users will have access to movies and series episodes directly after their global launch.

The Standard Plan annual subscription is priced at ₹ 1,974 per year with a 50 percent discount over the monthly subscription plan.

HBO Max India’s Plans Are Not Final, Company Says

HBO has said that the prices are not final. “We routinely conduct market research with consumers in countries around the world that test a wide range of possible offers and prices for our services. Those reports suggesting a future HBO Max launch in India are among the many being tested and evaluated and do not reflect any current plans, “said a WarnerMedia spokesperson.
