Google is Cutting Off OnHub Router Support Next Year

Google today notified OnHub brand router owners that they will need to upgrade to a new WiFi setting before the end of next year. OnHub routers, which were something of a starter for Google WiFi before Google WiFi existed, will lose support in December 2022.

The official end date for OnHub routers is December 19, 2022. After that date, OnHub routers will still be able to produce a WiFi signal, but there will no longer be any control for this through the Google Home app. Things like network settings, adding additional WiFi devices, running speed tests, and controlling it with the Google Assistant will all go away. OnHub performance will also not be guaranteed any longer.

What is Google doing to help OnHub owners move towards something newer, more modern, and still compatible? If you are actively using an OnHub router, you should receive a E-mail with this news, along with a 40% discount code that can be used to get a replacement Nest WiFi setup. This code must be redeemed before March 31, 2022.

With a 40% off code and the current discounts running on Nest WiFi products, you can get one for under $ 100. Here’s our review on Nest WiFi from a couple of years ago. Also, yes, Nest WiFi is a couple of years old at the moment and lacks modern features like WiFi 6. It could be a solid choice if you don’t care much about WiFi speeds and you like the Google Home app. However, it would be nice to see Google offer an updated model.

Once again, OnHub branded routers will barely work in December 2022.

Cheers M!
